Delhi is rapidly emerging as India’s Creative Capital, says CM Rekha Gupta. With over 30 major events planned in 80 days, the city is set to become a global hub for culture, tourism, and creativity.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced Delhi’s fast-paced transformation into the Creative Capital of India, highlighting a packed calendar of more than 30 major national and international events scheduled in the next 80 days. These events aim to celebrate India’s rich cultural diversity, attract global talent, and make Delhi a top destination for art, festivals, and creative industries.
Addressing a press conference, CM Rekha Gupta emphasized the Delhi government’s commitment to the vision of “One India, Excellent India”, and said the city is being reshaped into a cultural hub that respects and showcases traditions from every Indian state.
“Delhi is adorned with the spirit of unity in diversity. With the upcoming events, the capital is poised to build a unique identity as the Creative Capital of India,” she said.
30+ Mega Events to Boost Delhi’s Creative and Tourism Economy
Over the next 70–80 days, Delhi will host more than 30 cultural festivals, music concerts, and international gatherings. These events are expected to draw lakhs of spectators, artists, and dignitaries from across India and abroad, significantly boosting Delhi’s concert economy and tourism sector.
CM Rekha Gupta praised the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their continued support, particularly in reducing rates at various central institutions. She also acknowledged Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya’s role in facilitating reforms to make Delhi more event-friendly.
Affordable Venues and Streamlined Approvals
To make Delhi a preferred location for large-scale events, the government has drastically reduced rental rates at iconic venues such as:
-
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium
-
Indira Gandhi Stadium
-
National Stadium
-
Thyagaraj Stadium
-
Chhatrasal Stadium
The Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also highlighted the success of Delhi’s single-window system for event approvals. This digital system has already streamlined permissions for major religious and cultural events, including the Kanwar Yatra, Ramlila, Durga Puja, and the upcoming Chhath Puja.
“This system promotes ease of doing business in Delhi’s cultural and creative sectors,” Gupta noted.

Focus on Tourism: “If You Visit India, You Must Visit Delhi”
A key part of the government’s vision is to elevate Delhi as a must-visit destination for both domestic and international tourists. CM Gupta reiterated that Delhi’s infrastructure, heritage sites, and events ecosystem are being upgraded to ensure that every visitor experiences the capital’s vibrancy and inclusivity.
Pollution Control and Yamuna River Revival
Addressing concerns over pollution and the state of the Yamuna River, CM Rekha Gupta urged citizens to disregard outdated visuals circulating online.
“The Yamuna today is cleaner, clearer, and more beautiful than before. We have removed between 25,000 to 35,000 metric tons of silt from city drains that would have otherwise polluted the river,” she said.
She added that all major Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) have been upgraded, and every drain in Delhi has been tapped to prevent wastewater discharge into the Yamuna. The Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) levels in the river have significantly improved, indicating enhanced water quality.
“Where earlier not even the smallest bacteria could survive, now the Yamuna is oxygen-rich and supports aquatic life. Fish can live in the water again. This is a big step towards restoring the ecological balance,” Gupta said.
On-Ground Inspection Ahead of Chhath Festival
Later in the day, CM Rekha Gupta and Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra inspected preparations at Kalindi Kunj Chhath Ghat. The site is being readied to host thousands of devotees during the upcoming Chhath Puja, one of the capital’s most significant cultural festivals.
