UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath sends 1,000 quintals of high-quality wheat seeds to flood-affected farmers in Punjab, supporting agricultural recovery and disaster relief efforts.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has extended a strong hand of support to Punjab’s farming community affected by recent devastating floods by dispatching 1,000 quintals of high-quality wheat seeds. The move underlines Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to aiding neighboring states during times of natural calamities and reinforcing India’s agricultural resilience.
On Tuesday, at his official residence, CM Yogi Adityanath flagged off trucks carrying 2,500 sacks (equivalent to 1,000 quintals) of wheat seeds destined for Punjab farmers whose crops and stored seeds were severely damaged by excessive rains and floods. In his address, the Chief Minister emphasized the true meaning of festivals, saying, “The spirit of any celebration lies in standing with those in distress,” while extending heartfelt Diwali greetings to the people of Punjab.
Support for Punjab’s Agricultural Backbone
Recognizing Punjab’s crucial role in India’s agricultural framework, CM Yogi Adityanath praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, crediting the “double-engine government” for timely disaster relief efforts, financial assistance, and rehabilitation programs for affected citizens. The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated that Uttar Pradesh has consistently supported disaster-hit states, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, affirming, “Our government stands firmly with every person in need during times of crisis.”
The wheat seeds being sent are of the ‘BB-327’ or Karan Shivani variety—known for its disease resistance, bio-fortified nutrients, and high yield potential. These seeds mature in approximately 155 days and can yield up to 80 quintals per hectare, ensuring farmers receive both quality and quantity in their harvest.
Strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s Seed Development and Agricultural Self-Reliance
CM Yogi Adityanath highlighted the remarkable transformation of the Uttar Pradesh Seeds Development Corporation (UPSDC), which was struggling before the current government took charge. Under renewed leadership and transparency, the corporation now earns a net profit of Rs 37 crore and generates dividends worth Rs 148 crore annually. This growth reflects the government’s focus on boosting agricultural infrastructure and supporting farmers.
Looking ahead, Yogi announced plans for a “Seed Park” in Lucknow, dedicated to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, along with five additional seed parks across the state. These initiatives aim to improve the availability of high-quality seeds, which reduce production costs and enhance crop yields. The Chief Minister emphasized that delays or poor-quality seeds can cause losses of up to 50%, making timely seed distribution critical to agricultural success.
Despite having only 11% of India’s cultivable land, Uttar Pradesh contributes an impressive 21% of the nation’s total food grain output. This statistic underscores the hard work of UP’s farmers and the effectiveness of the state’s progressive agricultural policies.
A Festival of Lights and Unity
Coinciding with Diwali, CM Yogi Adityanath also extended greetings on the birth anniversary of the sixth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Hargobind Ji Maharaj—a celebration that resonates deeply in Punjab. He drew parallels between the lighting of lamps across Punjab in honor of Guru Hargobind Ji and the lighting of lamps in Ayodhya during Lord Ram’s return, symbolizing unity, service, and compassion.
“On this sacred occasion, I send my warmest wishes to all brothers and sisters in Punjab, especially the courageous farmers. May this festival of lights bring renewed hope, compassion, and unity,” said the Chief Minister.
The seed dispatch ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, Minister of State Baldev Singh Aulakh, former minister and MLC Mahendra Singh, UPSDC Vice-Chairman Rajeshwar Singh, Agriculture Production Commissioner Deepak Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjay Prasad, Principal Secretary of Agriculture Ravindra Kumar, and other senior officials.
