Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid homage to India’s Iron Man and Bharat Ratna, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on his birth anniversary, emphasizing his unwavering dedication to the country’s unity and integrity.
On Friday, October 31, CM Dhami offered floral tributes at the Sardar Patel statue near the Clock Tower in Dehradun and inaugurated the Unity Walkathon. The Chief Minister participated in the walkathon alongside a large number of attendees, urging citizens to adopt Swadeshi products and pledge to make Uttarakhand a drug-free state.
CM Dhami highlighted Sardar Patel’s remarkable contributions, saying, “The life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was devoted to India’s unity and sovereignty. By integrating over 560 princely states, he laid the foundation of a united India. His courage, vision, and patriotism have shaped India into a strong and unified nation today.”
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister mentioned that since 2014, Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary is celebrated as National Unity Day, reflecting the nation’s respect for his legacy. He added that until November 16, walkathon events will be held across all districts of Uttarakhand at three locations each.
Each event will feature an 8 to 10 km walkathon, integrating public awareness campaigns such as Drug-Free India, Plant a Tree for Mother, and Self-Reliant India, to promote positive social messages.
The program witnessed participation from a large number of public representatives, officials, students, and citizens. CM Dhami appealed to participants to spread messages of unity, environmental protection, and a drug-free lifestyle across society.
This initiative reinforces Uttarakhand’s commitment to social awareness, national unity, and citizen engagement, honoring the legacy of Sardar Patel.
