Punjab government committed to SC welfare: Dr. Baljeet Kaur reviews SCSP schemes, scholarships, and Ambedkar buildings for timely benefits.
Punjab’s Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minority Affairs, Dr. Baljeet Kaur, has reaffirmed the state government’s full commitment to the welfare of Scheduled Castes (SC) and marginalized communities. She emphasized that the government is dedicated to ensuring inclusive growth and support for all underprivileged sections of society.
Review of SC Sub-Plan Initiatives
During a meeting with senior officials of the Social Justice Department, Dr. Baljeet Kaur reviewed ongoing projects under the SC Sub-Plan (SCSP) and directed all departments to submit detailed reports on how the allocated funds are being utilized for the benefit of the SC community. She underlined that the SCSP budget should be strictly used for the welfare of the Scheduled Caste community, and departmental officers must closely monitor all activities under this scheme.
Ensuring Transparency and Accountability
The minister stated that the Social Justice Department is committed to protecting the interests of economically weaker and marginalized groups. Any negligence or lack of diligence in implementing welfare schemes will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against officials found responsible.
Dr. Baljeet Kaur further emphasized that the Punjab government firmly believes in social justice and equal opportunities. The aim of every government initiative is to improve the lives of backward and marginalized communities, ensuring that no eligible individual is deprived of government support and that welfare schemes reach every household on time.

Progress on Key Schemes
The minister also reviewed the progress of critical initiatives including the Post-Matric Scholarship, Aashirwad Scheme, and the construction and renovation of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Buildings. She instructed officials to expedite the verification process of all applications submitted on portals to ensure timely payments. According to departmental data, under the Post-Matric Scholarship for SC Students Scheme for the year 2025-26, approximately 2.45 lakh applications have been received on the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Portal, and verification and payment processes are currently underway.
Awareness and Outreach
Dr. Baljeet Kaur also emphasized the importance of conducting awareness camps in all districts to ensure that maximum eligible beneficiaries can access government schemes. The goal is to make sure that the benefits of welfare programs reach all eligible individuals, leaving no one behind.
The minister reiterated that the Punjab government remains committed to the principles of social justice, equal opportunities, and inclusive development, ensuring that the welfare and upliftment of SC and marginalized communities continue to be a top priority.
