142 Assistant Professors appointed in Uttarakhand government medical colleges, CM Dhami distributes appointment letters, boosting healthcare & medical education.
The Government Medical Colleges in Uttarakhand have received 142 newly appointed Assistant Professors, with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami personally distributing the appointment letters to all selected candidates.
CM Dhami, through the Medical Service Selection Board, handed over the appointment letters to the 142 Assistant Professors selected for various government medical colleges. He congratulated the new appointees and emphasized that this step would significantly strengthen the medical education sector in the state.
The Chief Minister urged all professors to provide quality education and training to their students while fostering empathy, compassion, and a sense of service. According to him, this approach will ensure that students not only become skilled doctors but also responsible citizens dedicated to serving society with integrity.
Ayushman Cards Distributed Across the State
CM Dhami highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the state government is continuously working to expand and strengthen healthcare services in Uttarakhand. Affordable and quality medical facilities are now accessible to all citizens. Nearly 6.1 million Ayushman cards have been distributed so far, providing cashless treatment worth over ₹3,300 crore to more than 1.7 million patients across the state.
Expansion of Medical Colleges and Super-Specialty Departments
The Chief Minister stated that the government is establishing a medical college in every district to provide advanced healthcare facilities locally, especially in remote areas. Five medical colleges are already operational, while construction is underway in two more locations. Super-specialty departments have been established in Dehradun, Haldwani, and Srinagar Medical Colleges.
Ongoing Recruitment for 356 Assistant Professors
CM Dhami also shared that the construction of Uttarakhand’s first modern cancer institute in Haldwani is in progress. Helicopter ambulance services are saving lives in remote regions, and free pathological testing is available across the state. Telemedicine facilities provide expert consultations to villagers in distant areas.
The Chief Minister added that recruitment in all government hospitals and medical colleges is being accelerated. While 142 Assistant Professors have received their appointment letters, the recruitment process for an additional 356 Assistant Professors is ongoing. Similarly, 1,248 nursing officers and 170 technicians have been appointed, with selection for nearly 600 nursing staff underway.

State’s Young Workforce Benefits from Merit-Based Recruitment
CM Dhami noted that earlier recruitment processes were marred by favoritism and corruption. The state now has the country’s strictest anti-cheating law in place, ensuring merit-based selections. So far, around 27,000 young candidates have successfully secured government jobs. Vacant posts will continue to be filled through commissions as per requirements.
Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat Updates on Medical College Progress
Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat informed that 62% of faculty in state medical colleges are now permanent, and this percentage is expected to rise. Construction at Pithoragarh and Rudrapur Medical Colleges is 70% complete, with both colleges expected to start in the next academic session. Currently, 625 MBBS students and 256 PG students are enrolled across government medical colleges in the state. Additionally, 14,000 students pursue nursing studies annually. The recently appointed 3,000 nursing staff members are 100% Uttarakhand residents. Free medical tests have been provided to over 3.2 million people, and 350 patients have been referred to higher centers via air ambulance.
This initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening Uttarakhand’s healthcare system and ensuring access to quality medical education and services across the state.
