“Delhi Lt Governor and CM inaugurate Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sadbhavana Udyan, a 11-acre green park with modern amenities and cultural sculptures, honoring the former PM’s legacy.”
In a landmark event celebrating the birth centenary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, along with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, formally inaugurated the newly developed 11-acre green space, naming it Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sadbhavana Udyan. The park, located along Mahatma Gandhi Marg near the historic Walled City, is designed as a permanent tribute to the visionary leader and will serve as a cultural and recreational hub for Delhi residents.
The inauguration saw the participation of Chief Secretary Delhi Rajeev Verma and senior officials from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). Both the Lt. Governor and Chief Minister took entry tickets as part of an initiative to encourage the public to visit the park and spend quality time with family and friends.
Modern Amenities and Cultural Landmarks
The park has been developed with modern infrastructure while maintaining its natural charm. It features well-manicured lawns, white marble walking pathways, shaded eating areas, baradaris, open recreational zones, sculptured fountains, and essential public amenities including toilets.

A major highlight of the park is a striking sculpture depicting five white horses guided by a sarathi, symbolizing leadership, momentum, and progress. This centerpiece is surrounded by a water body and fountains, enhancing the visual appeal. Additionally, four Yakshini sculptures by renowned Padma Vibhushan awardee Sudarshan Sahoo have been installed, adding a cultural dimension to the park.
A clock tower is under construction, and a food van facility near the parking area is planned to provide visitors with refreshments, making the park a holistic recreational destination.
Part of a Larger Urban Redevelopment Project
According to the DDA, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sadbhavana Udyan is part of a larger landscape redevelopment project along Mahatma Gandhi Marg. The scheme spans three parks, including the earlier inaugurated Kranti Udyan, covering a total area of 35 acres and a length of 1.7 km along the ring road. This initiative aims to decongest crowded city lawns while creating green urban spaces that combine leisure, culture, and heritage preservation.
The park not only honors the life and values of Atal Bihari Vajpayee but also serves as a model for public recreational spaces in Delhi. It is expected to inspire citizens and future generations by reflecting the former Prime Minister’s lifelong dedication to public service, integrity, and national progress.
