Gangster Ravi Pujari Arrested in 2018 Remo D’Souza Extortion Case | Mumbai Police Action
In a major development, notorious gangster Ravi Pujari has been arrested in connection with a 2018 extortion case involving Bollywood choreographer Remo D’Souza and his wife Lizelle D’Souza. Pujari, who had been in jail following his deportation from Senegal five years ago, had not been previously detained in this specific case.
According to officials, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch presented Pujari before the Esplanade Court on Thursday, where he was remanded to police custody until January 27, 2026.
Rs 50 Lakh Extortion Demand
Police sources revealed that Pujari allegedly threatened the D’Souzas at the behest of Satyendra Tyagi, who had already been named as an accused in the case. Between October 2016 and February 2018, Pujari reportedly called and intimidated Remo D’Souza, his wife, and their manager multiple times. The gangster allegedly demanded Rs 50 lakh to “settle” a financial dispute and pressurize the release of the film ‘Death of Amar’.

Background of the 2018 Case
The case traces back to an agreement between Remo D’Souza and Satyendra Tyagi over the film ‘Amar Must Die’. Disagreements arose later over film rights and payments, with Tyagi claiming he had invested in the project and was owed Rs 5 crore.
It is alleged that Tyagi then sought Ravi Pujari’s assistance to recover the money. Following this, Pujari reportedly started issuing threats to the D’Souzas and their manager, attempting to coerce them into paying Rs 50 lakh.
Police Action and Next Steps
The Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) successfully took Pujari into custody from jail, marking a significant breakthrough in the case. Authorities are investigating further to identify any accomplices and trace the flow of funds linked to the extortion demands.
Ravi Pujari, who has multiple criminal cases registered against him across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Karnataka, faces charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). The police are expected to interrogate him regarding other pending extortion-related cases as well.
This arrest underscores Mumbai Police’s ongoing efforts to crack down on organized crime syndicates and protect citizens, including high-profile personalities, from harassment and extortion.
