Udit Narayan is accused by first wife Ranjana of removing her uterus without consent. Case under investigation; singer contests claims.
Veteran playback singer Udit Narayan is once again in the news after his first wife, Ranjana Jha, lodged serious allegations against him. Ranjana has accused Udit, his two brothers, Sanjay Kumar Jha and Lalit Narayan Jha, and his second wife, Deepa Narayan, of being involved in a criminal conspiracy that allegedly led to her uterus being removed without her consent.
The complaint was officially filed on February 10 at the Women’s Police Station in Supaul district, Bihar. According to Ranjana, she only discovered the surgery years later during a routine medical check-up.
Timeline of Marriage and Alleged Incidents
Ranjana stated that she and Udit Narayan were married on December 7, 1984, following traditional Hindu customs. Udit Narayan moved to Mumbai in 1985 to pursue his music career. According to Ranjana, she later discovered through media reports that Udit had married another woman, Deepa Narayan, while he allegedly misled her whenever confronted about it.
The most alarming allegation involves a 1996 incident, when Ranjana claims she was taken to a Delhi hospital under the pretext of medical treatment. During this visit, she alleges her uterus was removed without her knowledge or consent, with Udit, his brothers, and Deepa Narayan present.
Ranjana Demands Justice
Speaking to the media, Ranjana said, “Udit Narayan repeatedly makes promises but never fulfills them. I deserve justice.” She added that due to ongoing health issues, she requires support from Udit Narayan, but the singer has not provided any assistance.
Ranjana also claimed that in 2006, during a visit to Mumbai, she was denied entry and allegedly abused by Udit and Deepa at their residence. She later went to her in-laws’ home in Nepal, where she claims she was insulted and turned away.

Previous Legal Disputes
Ranjana had previously filed a maintenance case against Udit Narayan. The veteran singer appeared before the Supaul Family Court on February 21, 2025, but chose to contest the case rather than settle. He had previously missed an initial court date on January 28, 2025, and was fined ₹10.
Ranjana also alleges that Udit kept ₹18 lakh from the sale of a property in Nepal and abandoned her despite being married since 1984. Her lawyer, Ajay Kumar, stated that Ranjana seeks to live with Udit due to her poor health and age. Mediation attempts by the court reportedly failed as Udit refused reconciliation.
Human Rights Angle
The case has drawn attention from human rights advocates. Advocate S.K. Jha filed petitions with both the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC), arguing that Udit Narayan’s marriage to Deepa Narayan may be illegal under the Hindu Marriage Act, as a divorce from his first wife was never granted.
Udit Narayan has dismissed the allegations, claiming the complaint is an attempt to extract money and that facts were misrepresented in court.
Investigation Underway
The Women’s Police Station in-charge, Anju Tiwari, confirmed that the case is under investigation. She stated that the allegations date back nearly three decades, and an FIR will be registered based on evidence that emerges. Udit Narayan has not released any public statement regarding the matter.
