Delhi Government approves ₹3,500 crore plan to boost MCD services, improve roads, schools, community centers, and reduce pollution with modern cleaning machines.
The Delhi Government has approved a massive ₹3,500 crore plan to strengthen the financial and operational condition of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) while enhancing public services across the city. The ambitious initiative includes construction and maintenance of 1,000 kilometers of roads, improvement of schools and community centers, and measures to reduce air pollution through modern equipment.
Comprehensive Infrastructure Upgrade
Given MCD’s ongoing financial challenges, the Delhi government has stepped in with this significant intervention. The plan covers the construction and repair of roads under 60 feet wide, upgrading of community centers, and renovation of municipal schools. Long-term investments also include the purchase of 70 state-of-the-art mechanical road sweeping machines and 1,000 electric litter pickers, aiming to modernize the city’s sanitation system and reduce dust pollution.
According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the initiative will prioritize cleanliness and infrastructure maintenance in narrow streets while improving the overall urban environment. For the financial year 2026-27, approximately ₹1,330 crore has been allocated to ensure the construction, repair, and strengthening of nearly 1,000 kilometers of roads. CM Gupta emphasized that this initiative is particularly crucial for controlling dust pollution and ensuring sustainable urban development.

Timely Execution of Road and Sanitation Projects
The Chief Minister has instructed authorities to complete all road improvement projects within a set timeline, aiming for implementation of major works by 30 September 2026. Alongside this, a long-term plan of around ₹2,300 crore has been approved to modernize Delhi’s sanitation infrastructure. This includes the acquisition and deployment of 70 mechanical road sweeping machines over the next ten years and 1,000 electric litter pickers.
These machines will work in conjunction with existing cleaning equipment to efficiently remove dust and garbage from the streets, making the city’s sanitation system faster, eco-friendly, and modern. CM Gupta highlighted that these steps are expected to offer a lasting solution to Delhi’s air pollution problem.
Focus on Schools and Community Centers
Education and social welfare are also receiving attention under this plan. The Chief Minister has sanctioned an additional ₹50 crore for upgrading MCD primary schools. The funds will strengthen school buildings and enhance sanitation facilities. Another ₹50 crore has been allocated for repairing 298 community buildings across smaller colonies, which serve as venues for weddings and other social events, ensuring better amenities for residents.
Key Benefits of the Plan
Construction and maintenance of 1,000 km of city roads
Modernization of sanitation system with mechanical sweepers and electric litter pickers
Renovation of MCD primary schools
Upgradation of community centers in smaller colonies
Long-term reduction in air pollution and improved urban hygiene
This ₹3,500 crore initiative reflects the Delhi Government’s commitment to creating a cleaner, more sustainable, and well-connected city while addressing MCD’s financial and operational challenges.
