Google CEO Sundar Pichai arrived in India to participate in the India AI Impact Summit 2026. On Wednesday, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his keynote address scheduled for February 20. The summit, held from February 16 to 20 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, is being touted as the first major AI conference of its kind in the Global South. Pichai expressed his delight at returning to India for the event, highlighting the country’s growing role in AI innovation.
PM Modi Shares Vision for IT Sector Growth
During an interview with ANI, PM Modi emphasized that AI is transforming India’s IT sector rather than eliminating jobs. He projected that by 2030, India’s IT industry could reach $400 billion, driven by AI-driven outsourcing and automation. Addressing concerns about employment, he said, “Preparation is the best antidote to fear. History shows that every technological shift brings new opportunities.”

Sundar Pichai: “Great to Be Back in India”
After arriving, Sundar Pichai took to X (formerly Twitter), writing that he felt welcomed and was excited to return for the AI Impact Summit. He will deliver the keynote speech on February 20. The summit has already set a Guinness World Record, achieving 250,946 student commitments for responsible AI usage within 24 hours, far surpassing the target of 5,000. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw attributed this success to PM Modi’s vision, which aims to raise awareness about responsible AI use through schools and colleges.
Global Leaders Converge at Bharat Mandapam
The India AI Impact Summit 2026 has attracted participants from over 110 countries and 30 international organizations, including global heads and ministers. Considered the first summit of its scale in the Global South, the event focuses on AI governance, security, and inclusive growth. PM Modi highlighted the importance of using AI for humanity, emphasizing the theme “Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay”. He stated that AI represents a civilizational shift capable of enhancing human potential but stressed that proper guidance is essential for its ethical and beneficial use.
The summit underscores India’s increasing prominence in the global AI landscape and highlights the nation’s proactive approach to responsible AI adoption.
