Delhi roads to get a major makeover as CM Rekha Gupta approves ₹802 crore project, redeveloping 400 km of major roads with advanced Wall-to-Wall Carpeting.
The streets of Delhi are set for a significant transformation as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved a massive road redevelopment project worth ₹802 crore. This ambitious initiative aims to renovate over 241 major roads spanning nearly 400 kilometers across more than 45 assembly constituencies. The project will be executed in phases by the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure minimal disruption to traffic and daily commuters.
Wall-to-Wall Carpeting Model to Ensure Durable Roads
CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that traditional road repairs often focus only on potholes or the middle portion of the road, leaving the rest prone to damage. Under the new “Wall-to-Wall Carpeting” model, roads will be reconstructed across their full width, ensuring uniform quality, increased durability, and longer lifespan. The upgraded roads will also significantly reduce dust and air pollution, as unpaved or uneven surfaces often contribute to particulate matter in the air.

Comprehensive Renovation Across 45+ Constituencies
The project targets over 400 kilometers of key roads in Delhi, including major arteries such as August Kranti Marg in Malviya Nagar, Outer Ring Road, Rao Tula Ram Marg, Kapas Hera Bijwasan Road, Najafgarh-Jharoda Road, Captain Gaur Marg in Kalkaji, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg in Greater Kailash, Dr. K.N. Katju Marg in Rohini, Sham Nath Marg in Chandni Chowk, DB Gupta Road in Karol Bagh, ESI Hospital Road in Shahdara, and Khudiram Bose Road, among others. The initiative will ensure smoother traffic, fewer accidents, and an overall improvement in the city’s infrastructure.
Funding and Execution
The total project cost of ₹802.18 crore will be funded through ₹643.36 crore from the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) and ₹158.82 crore by the Delhi government. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, with each phase executed according to strict technical standards. This includes checking the base layer, strengthening weak sections, implementing proper drainage, and completing final carpeting to prevent waterlogging during monsoons and ensure roads remain durable for years.
Future-Ready Roads for a Modern Delhi
CM Rekha Gupta highlighted that strong, well-constructed roads are crucial for a city’s development. The project not only aims to improve commuting but also enhances Delhi’s urban landscape and overall city planning. This comprehensive road development initiative reflects the government’s commitment to building a safer, more organized, and modern capital city for its residents.
