Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann launches Meri Rasoi scheme to provide free oil, sugar, dal, turmeric, salt, and tea leaves to 40 lakh families under the state’s atta-dal program ahead of 2027 elections.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has unveiled the “Meri Rasoi” scheme, aimed at providing essential food items to beneficiaries of the state government’s atta-dal program. Under this initiative, 40 lakh families across Punjab will receive free sugar, chana dal, mustard oil, turmeric, salt, and tea leaves, alongside their monthly wheat supply.
The announcement comes ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with the Cabinet approving the scheme on Monday. Each eligible household under the National Food Security Act or the Smart Ration Card Scheme will receive a separate bag containing 2 kg sugar, 2 kg chana dal, 1 litre mustard oil, 200 g turmeric, 1 kg salt, and tea leaves. Beneficiaries are also entitled to 15 kg of wheat per month, distributed quarterly in 45-kg bags.
The distribution schedule has been planned carefully: the first batch will be delivered in April, the second in June, the third in October, and the final lot in December.

In addition to the scheme, CM Bhagwant Mann announced that the Punjab state budget will be presented on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2027, coinciding with a Sunday. “If the Prime Minister can convene a Parliament session on a Sunday, why can’t we table our budget on the same day?” Mann remarked.
Addressing security concerns, Mann also confirmed that investigations are underway following the murders of two police personnel at a border checkpoint in Gurdaspur. Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurnam Singh and Home Guard Ashok Kumar were found dead near the Pakistan border.
The “Meri Rasoi” scheme aims to support families dependent on government food programs, ensuring they receive not only staple wheat but also essential cooking and dietary items. This move is expected to strengthen food security in Punjab and provide significant relief to low-income households.
