Punjab Cabinet approves Meri Rasoi scheme to provide ration kits to 40 lakh NFSA beneficiaries; Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak thanks CM Mann.
Meri Rasoi Scheme: Punjab’s Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann after the State Cabinet approved the ambitious ‘Meri Rasoi’ scheme aimed at strengthening food security for economically weaker sections.
Describing the initiative as a landmark step, the Minister said the scheme significantly expands benefits for registered beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013. He termed the Cabinet’s decision a historic and pro-people measure that reflects the government’s strong commitment to public welfare.
Major Boost for NFSA Beneficiaries in Punjab
Currently, nearly 40 lakh beneficiaries are covered under the NFSA in Punjab. Until now, eligible families, commonly known as Blue Card holders, were provided only wheat under the food distribution system.
However, under the newly approved ‘Meri Rasoi’ scheme, the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department will begin distributing specially designed ration kits starting April 1. These kits will be provided once every three months to ensure improved nutritional support to beneficiaries.

Each ration kit under the scheme will contain:
- 2 kg Dal

The inclusion of essential kitchen staples is expected to ease the financial burden on low-income households while improving their nutritional intake.
Government’s Focus on Food Security and Welfare
Minister Kataruchak emphasized that the scheme has been conceptualized keeping the interests and dignity of beneficiaries in mind. He said the initiative goes beyond basic grain distribution and aims to provide a more balanced food basket to families in need.
The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has been consistently working to strengthen welfare measures and ensure that benefits reach the intended sections of society efficiently and transparently.
With the rollout of the ‘Meri Rasoi’ scheme from April, thousands of families across the state are expected to experience enhanced food security and improved household support.
