Delhi Government announces 20% reservation for ex-Agniveers in Delhi Police and launches Raah Veer Scheme to reward citizens saving lives in accidents. Learn full details, eligibility, and benefits.
In a significant move to strengthen public safety and service, the Delhi Government, along with the Central Government, has introduced key initiatives to recognize and empower citizens who have served the nation. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced a 20% reservation for ex-Agniveers in Delhi Police recruitment and the launch of the Raah Veer Scheme to reward individuals who save lives during road accidents.
20% Reservation for Ex-Agniveers in Delhi Police
Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena approved amendments to Rule 9 of the Delhi Police (Appointment and Recruitment) Rules, 1980, allowing ex-Agniveers to receive a 20% reservation for the position of male constable in Delhi Police. The revised rules also offer various relaxations, including exemption from physical efficiency tests and additional age relaxation of up to three years. Candidates from the first batch of the Agniveer Scheme will receive an extra five-year age relaxation beyond the maximum age limit of 25 years.

Currently, Delhi Police has 42,451 approved male constable positions. The reservation and age relaxation initiative ensures that a large number of trained and disciplined ex-Agniveers can now qualify for these positions, leveraging their military and paramilitary experience to contribute to law enforcement and public safety.
This decision marks a critical step in ex-Agniveer rehabilitation and employment, allowing them to continue serving society while providing Delhi Police with skilled manpower.
Raah Veer Scheme: Rewarding Life Savers
In addition to ex-Agniveer reservations, the Central Government has implemented the Raah Veer Scheme in Delhi. Under this initiative, citizens who help accident victims reach hospitals within the golden hour—crucial for saving lives—will receive a cash award of ₹25,000 along with a certificate of appreciation. Legal protection will also be provided to ensure that bystanders can assist without fear of litigation.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the importance of timely medical assistance during road accidents, noting that the first hour after an accident—the golden hour—is critical in saving lives. The scheme aligns with the Good Samaritan rules under Section 134A of the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act, 2019, and ensures legal protection for volunteers providing emergency assistance.
Selected Raah Veers will receive awards directly in their bank accounts via a digital platform. Additionally, the top 10 performers of the year will be recognized nationally, receiving a special cash prize of ₹1 lakh each, along with certificates.
A Step Towards a Safer and Responsible Delhi
Both initiatives—the 20% ex-Agniveer reservation in Delhi Police and the Raah Veer Scheme—reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing safety, public service, and social responsibility. By empowering ex-Agniveers and recognizing citizens who act selflessly during emergencies, Delhi is set to become a model city for disciplined policing and community service.
