Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma criticised Congress over allegations against CEC Gyanesh Kumar and urged the party to present facts and evidence.
The political dispute surrounding Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission of India (ECI) has intensified, with Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma criticising the Congress and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over their allegations against the poll body.
Speaking at a press conference, Bhajanlal Sharma argued that constitutional institutions should not be questioned without adequate facts and evidence. His remarks came amid a wider political confrontation over the functioning of the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Bhajanlal Sharma Questions Congress Over Election Commission Claims
According to Bhajanlal Sharma, political parties should present evidence when making serious allegations against a constitutional institution. He questioned whether Rahul Gandhi and the Congress would place supporting evidence before the public and asked what their response would be if the allegations could not be substantiated.
The Rajasthan Chief Minister also criticised what he described as repeated attacks on constitutional institutions by the Congress.

CEC Gyanesh Kumar Row Intensifies
The controversy involving Bhajanlal Sharma’s remarks comes amid a growing political dispute over the Election Commission. An Indian Express report claimed that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised formal objections on multiple occasions over decisions linked to the poll panel, including matters related to SIR.
The Election Commission, however, rejected the suggestion of a breakdown in functioning and maintained that decisions were being taken unanimously. CEC Gyanesh Kumar and the two Election Commissioners also met on September 26 and issued clarifications amid the controversy.
Rahul Gandhi and Congress Have Raised Questions
Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have questioned the functioning of the Election Commission and called for action against CEC Gyanesh Kumar. Congress has also organised protests demanding his resignation.
The BJP and its leaders have rejected these allegations and accused the opposition of attempting to undermine the credibility of constitutional institutions. Bhajanlal Sharma echoed this position while addressing the issue in Rajasthan.
Congress Should Focus on Public Issues, Says CM
Bhajanlal Sharma also criticised the Congress over its response to electoral setbacks. He alleged that the party frequently looks for explanations when it loses elections instead of accepting the results and working among the public.
He further argued that continued criticism of constitutional institutions could affect Congress politically, while urging the party to focus on public issues and organisational work.
Political Debate Continues
The remarks by Bhajanlal Sharma are part of a broader political exchange over the Election Commission, SIR and allegations concerning electoral processes. While opposition parties have raised questions about the poll panel’s functioning, the BJP and the Election Commission have disputed several of those claims.
With both sides maintaining different positions, the CEC controversy remains an active political issue, with further statements and developments expected in the coming days.
