AAP in Goa steps up efforts to challenge BJP strongholds as Arvind Kejriwal meets volunteers and party leaders in Cumbharjua and Panaji.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified its organisational efforts in Goa, focusing on key constituencies in North Goa where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has traditionally maintained a strong presence. AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, along with senior Goa leaders, addressed volunteers in Cumbharjua and held an organisational meeting with party office-bearers in Panaji. The meetings focused on strengthening the party at the grassroots level and preparing a strategy to challenge the BJP and Congress in the state.
AAP Mobilises Volunteers in Cumbharjua
During the volunteer meeting in Cumbharjua, party workers pledged to work towards ending what AAP describes as the BJP-Congress political arrangement in Goa. Volunteers reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the BJP government, alleging that promises of development and change had been overshadowed by corruption, defections and political betrayal.
According to the party, even voters in constituencies considered BJP strongholds are increasingly exploring AAP as an alternative. The meetings form part of the AAP’s broader effort to expand its support base and connect with local communities across Goa.
Arvind Kejriwal Calls for a Political Alternative in Goa
Addressing party office-bearers in Panaji, Arvind Kejriwal urged them to strengthen outreach at the polling-booth level and engage directly with residents. He emphasised the need to understand local concerns and build public confidence in the party.
Kejriwal claimed that people in Goa were disappointed with both the BJP and Congress, arguing that successive governments led by the two parties had failed to meet public expectations. He also alleged that voting for Congress could ultimately benefit the BJP because of defections by elected representatives.
The AAP national convenor described his party as a credible alternative for voters seeking a change in Goa’s political landscape. These remarks reflect the party’s strategy of positioning itself against both established political parties.

Valmiki Naik Questions BJP’s Hold Over North Goa
AAP Goa President Valmiki Naik criticised the BJP’s claim that North Goa remains its stronghold. He alleged that the party was taking its voters for granted by inducting leaders who had defected from Congress.
Naik argued that these political switches had weakened public trust in the Congress as well, with voters concerned that elected representatives could change parties after winning an election. He said this situation had created an opportunity for AAP to reach voters looking for a more dependable political option.
The party leadership believes that addressing local grievances and building a stronger grassroots network could help it expand its influence in constituencies traditionally dominated by the BJP.
Prashant Naik Highlights Public Grievances
AAP Goa Organisational Secretary Prashant Naik said dissatisfaction with the BJP government was becoming increasingly visible across North Goa. He pointed to issues such as high electricity bills, inadequate water supply, limited bus services, unemployment and concerns over the state’s law-and-order situation.
Naik also argued that Congress was struggling to convince voters that it could provide a stable alternative, citing concerns about elected representatives defecting to the BJP.
The party intends to use these public concerns to strengthen its organisational presence and connect with residents at the booth level. However, the claims about voter dissatisfaction and the political prospects of the parties represent AAP leaders’ assessments.
AAP Focuses on Expanding Its Grassroots Presence
The meetings in Cumbharjua and Panaji underline AAP’s efforts to strengthen its position in Goa through volunteer mobilisation, organisational planning and direct engagement with voters.
By focusing on local issues and alleged political defections, AAP in Goa is seeking to challenge the BJP’s established support base while presenting itself as an alternative to both the BJP and Congress. The effectiveness of this strategy will depend on the party’s ability to convert organisational activity and public grievances into electoral support.
