Saurabh Bharadwaj criticises Rekha Gupta over the ‘Jai Modi Dandiya video’ and urges the Delhi LG to investigate alleged misuse of public funds.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj has criticised Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta over a video showing her performing ‘Jai Modi’ Dandiya during Navratri. Bharadwaj alleged that the performance hurt Hindu religious sentiments and questioned whether public money was being used to promote the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The controversy surrounding the Jai Modi Dandiya video has sparked a political exchange, with the AAP leader calling for an investigation into the expenditure associated with the event.
Saurabh Bharadwaj Questions ‘Jai Modi’ Dandiya Performance
Sharing the video on X, Saurabh Bharadwaj targeted the BJP over the Chief Minister’s participation in the Dandiya performance. He argued that the traditional dance is associated with the worship of Goddess Durga during Navratri and should not be used to promote a political leader.
According to Bharadwaj, Dandiya celebrations are meant to honour Maa Durga rather than promote political slogans. He described the alleged use of ‘Jai Modi’ during the performance as an affront to religious sentiments.
The AAP leader also questioned the choice of Rekha Gupta for the position of Delhi Chief Minister, using the video to criticise the BJP’s approach to religious and cultural events.

AAP Leader Seeks Probe Into Use of Public Funds
Alongside his criticism of the performance, Bharadwaj raised concerns about the possible use of taxpayers’ money for activities he described as political promotion.
He called on Delhi Lieutenant Governor to order an inquiry into the spending linked to events allegedly used to promote the BJP. Bharadwaj maintained that public funds should not be diverted towards the publicity or activities of a political party.
He further argued that, if an investigation established that government money had been used improperly, the amount should be recovered from the Chief Minister.
The Jai Modi Dandiya controversy has therefore raised questions from the AAP about the distinction between government-sponsored cultural programmes and political campaigning. The allegations, however, would need to be examined by the relevant authorities.
Political Row Over Navratri Celebrations
Navratri is celebrated across India through prayers, devotional music, and traditional dances such as Garba and Dandiya, which are closely associated with worshipping Goddess Durga. The festival also provides an opportunity for communities to come together through cultural programmes.
Bharadwaj’s remarks have brought the Jai Modi Dandiya video into the political spotlight, with the AAP questioning whether religious celebrations should feature political messaging.
The issue has also prompted scrutiny of how public resources are used for cultural events involving political representatives. Any conclusion regarding the funding or alleged misuse of government money would depend on the findings of an official inquiry.
As the debate continues, the Jai Modi Dandiya controversy has become another point of confrontation between the AAP and the BJP in Delhi, involving religious sentiments, political messaging and accountability in public spending.
