AAP MP Sanjay Singh alleges voter list irregularities in Uttar Pradesh, questions SIR figures and demands transparency from the Election Commission.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Sanjay Singh has accused the BJP and the Election Commission of India of failing to ensure transparency in the revision of electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming elections. Calling the alleged irregularities “vote-chori”, Singh claimed that discrepancies in voter addition and deletion figures raised serious questions about the fairness of the process.
Addressing a press conference at the AAP headquarters in Lucknow on Friday, Sanjay Singh alleged that developments previously highlighted by his party in Delhi and West Bengal were now being repeated in Uttar Pradesh. He demanded an impartial investigation into the claims and the public release of booth-wise details of voters added to and removed from the electoral rolls.
The allegations made by Sanjay Singh have not been independently verified. The Election Commission’s response to the specific claims was not included in the information provided.
Sanjay Singh Questions Voter Addition Figures After SIR
Speaking about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Singh cited figures that he said highlighted discrepancies in Uttar Pradesh’s voter data. According to the figures presented by him, the state had approximately 15.44 crore voters before the revision, during which around 2.90 crore names were reportedly deleted.
He further stated that authorities received 84 lakh applications for adding names to the voter list and 4.30 lakh applications seeking deletions.
However, Sanjay Singh questioned why publicly available information reportedly showed that only 71.13 lakh names had been added despite the receipt of 84 lakh applications. He demanded clarification on the status of the remaining applications and asked the Election Commission to release the relevant records.
The AAP leader argued that voter list irregularities in Uttar Pradesh must be examined through transparent, verifiable data so that political parties and citizens can check the authenticity of electoral entries.
AAP Leader Alleges 13 Lakh Votes Could Be in Question
Sanjay Singh alleged that approximately 13 lakh names remained unexplained in the figures he cited. He accused the BJP of benefiting from the alleged irregularities and questioned whether political pressure had influenced the process.
He also claimed that adding thousands of names across selected Assembly constituencies could potentially affect election outcomes, particularly in closely contested seats.
Sanjay Singh demanded that the Election Commission disclose the number of newly added voters at every polling booth, along with supporting documents. He also questioned whether the additions had been made following requests from political leaders, naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Pankaj Chaudhary.
These statements represent Sanjay Singh’s allegations and should not be treated as established findings of electoral fraud.
Questions Raised Over Deletion Applications
The AAP MP also raised concerns about applications submitted to remove names from electoral rolls. He said that, out of approximately 4.30 lakh deletion applications, around 85,000 names had reportedly been removed without reasons being provided.
According to Sanjay Singh, some of the forms were allegedly generated automatically, raising questions about whether the prescribed verification procedures had been followed.
He explained that applications to add names through Form 6 are subject to verification by a Booth Level Officer (BLO), while the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) decides whether the names should be included. Similarly, requests for deleting names through Form 7 must comply with the applicable procedure and valid grounds.
Sanjay Singh warned that improper deletions, if established, could prevent eligible voters from exercising their democratic rights, particularly if they are forced to pursue lengthy appeals before elections.
Gonda Constituency Cited in Alleged Voter Deletion Cases
To support his demand for an investigation, Singh referred to alleged cases in the Tarabganj Assembly constituency of Gonda district. He claimed that applications had been submitted seeking the deletion of 188 voters in the name of a woman identified as Reshma, but efforts to establish her whereabouts had reportedly been unsuccessful.
He questioned how multiple deletion requests could be filed under one person’s name without adequate verification of identity and the authenticity of the applications.
Singh also presented figures for several other individuals, alleging that many of the voters targeted in these cases belonged to the Muslim community.
The figures cited by the AAP leader were:
Baburam: 237 names, including 212 Muslim voters.
Reshma: 188 names, including 174 Muslim voters.
Nisha: 124 names, including 109 Muslim voters.
Dheeraj Kumar Bharti: 112 names, including 97 Muslim voters.
Kumar Kamlesh: 75 names, including 65 Muslim voters.
Brij Mohan: 66 names, including 63 Muslim voters.
Devdatt: 62 names, including 59 Muslim voters.
Adarsh Kumar Pandey: 61 names, including 56 Muslim voters.
Jasbandh: 59 names, including 55 Muslim voters.
Narendra Kumar Tiwari in Pilibhit: 56 names, including 50 Muslim voters.

Singh called for an impartial inquiry into these cases and sought clarification on the reasons behind the applications. The figures and allegations require verification by the relevant electoral authorities.
Election Commission Asked to Publish Booth-Wise Data
Referring to the large number of names reportedly removed during the SIR exercise, Singh questioned statements by BJP leaders regarding the addition of voters at polling booths.
He referred to calls for BJP workers to facilitate the addition of 200 names at every booth and demanded that the Election Commission publish detailed, booth-wise information about new registrations.
According to Singh, transparency in voter registration and deletion is essential to prevent eligible citizens from being excluded from electoral rolls. He urged the Commission to ensure that its decisions remain free from political influence.
The AAP leader also recalled the party’s complaints during the Delhi Assembly elections, alleging that requests had been made to delete the names of around 2,000 voters under a single individual’s name. He claimed that the complaints were not adequately addressed.
Singh said opposition parties should work together to raise concerns over electoral rolls, arguing that protecting voting rights is a broader democratic issue rather than a matter concerning only one political party.
Sanjay Singh Warns of Possible Impact on Election Results
Sanjay Singh stressed that elections can be decided by narrow margins, making the accuracy of electoral rolls particularly important in closely contested constituencies. He warned that any wrongful exclusion of eligible voters could affect their ability to participate in the democratic process.
He reiterated his demand for a transparent investigation into the alleged vote-chori in Uttar Pradesh, including verification of disputed applications, disclosure of voter addition and deletion figures, and accountability wherever procedural violations are established.
The Election Commission’s official findings and response to the specific allegations will be important in determining whether the concerns raised by AAP point to verified irregularities.
AAP Also Seeks Immediate Relief for Flood-Affected Residents in Lucknow
Apart from electoral issues, Sanjay Singh expressed concern about conditions in Faizullaganj, Lucknow, following flooding in the area. He appealed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ensure immediate assistance for affected residents.
He called for improvements in ambulance services, healthcare facilities, ration distribution, sanitation and transport arrangements to help families dealing with the aftermath of the floods.
The Aam Aadmi Party said it wanted an impartial investigation into the alleged electoral-roll irregularities, the publication of complete information about voter additions and deletions, and urgent relief for flood-affected households.
The controversy has brought voter list irregularities in Uttar Pradesh into political focus, with AAP demanding greater accountability from electoral authorities ahead of future elections. Whether the allegations lead to official findings will depend on the verification of records and the response of the Election Commission.
