Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on Saturday evening for a two-day visit, during which he will visit prominent Durga Puja pandals, offer prayers at Sovabazar Rajbari and visit Belur Math in Howrah.
Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to arrive in West Bengal on Saturday evening for a two-day visit to Kolkata and nearby areas amid the ongoing Durga Puja celebrations. According to sources, his itinerary includes visits to several prominent puja pandals and the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission at Belur Math.
The visit comes during the festive season, when Kolkata and its surrounding districts attract large crowds to their elaborately decorated Durga Puja venues. Shah’s programme is expected to cover some of the region’s well-known religious and cultural destinations.
Amit Shah’s Kolkata Visit: Arrival on Saturday Evening
According to BJP sources, Amit Shah is expected to reach Kolkata from Ahmedabad at around 8:10 pm on Saturday. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya are likely to receive him at the airport.
Following his arrival, the Union Home Minister is scheduled to stay overnight at a guest house in Alipore in south Kolkata. His engagements will resume on Sunday morning, with visits planned to religious institutions and major Durga Puja celebrations across the city and neighbouring Howrah district.
The Amit Shah Kolkata visit is drawing attention as it coincides with one of West Bengal’s most significant annual festivals.
Belur Math Visit Scheduled for Sunday Morning
Shah is scheduled to visit Belur Math, the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission, at approximately 10:45 am on Sunday. The institution, located in Howrah district on the western bank of the Hooghly River, is an important spiritual destination associated with the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda.

During the visit, Shah is expected to witness the Durga Puja celebrations at the premises. Belur Math is known for its distinctive religious traditions and attracts devotees from across the country during the festive period.
The visit will mark the first major engagement on Sunday’s itinerary before the Home Minister proceeds to other prominent puja destinations.
Deshbandhu Club Durga Puja Pandal in Bally Next
After visiting Belur Math, Shah is scheduled to reach the Deshbandhu Club Durga Puja pandal in Bally at around 11:30 am.
Bally, situated in Howrah district, is among the areas where Durga Puja celebrations draw considerable public participation. The Deshbandhu Club pandal is included in the Home Minister’s planned tour of prominent festive venues.
The programme will then take him to north Kolkata’s historic Sovabazar Rajbari, known for its centuries-old Durga Puja tradition.
Prayers at the Historic Sovabazar Rajbari
Amit Shah is expected to visit Sovabazar Rajbari later in the morning and offer prayers at its Durga Puja celebrations. The royal family’s puja is among Kolkata’s best-known traditional festivities and dates back more than 250 years.
Unlike many contemporary celebrations centred on elaborate public installations, the Rajbari puja reflects the city’s long-standing heritage of family-organised Durga Puja ceremonies.
The stop is expected to highlight the historical and cultural significance of the festival, which remains deeply connected to Bengal’s identity and traditions.
Sreebhumi Durga Puja Pandal to Be the Final Stop
The Union Home Minister’s schedule also includes a visit to the Sreebhumi Durga Puja pandal in Lake Town, eastern Kolkata. The venue is widely recognised for its elaborate themes and large-scale festive arrangements.
Following the visit, Shah is expected to depart for New Delhi later on Sunday, according to sources.
The Amit Shah Kolkata visit will therefore cover religious institutions, a historic royal household’s puja and major community celebrations across Kolkata and Howrah within a packed Sunday schedule.
Political Significance of the West Bengal Visit
The two-day tour is also noteworthy in the state’s political context. According to the information provided by sources, this is Shah’s first visit to West Bengal during Durga Puja since the BJP came to power in the state.
However, the scheduled engagements are primarily focused on religious and cultural destinations associated with the festival. Any further political meetings or additional programme changes will depend on official announcements.
With visits to Belur Math, Deshbandhu Club, Sovabazar Rajbari and Sreebhumi planned, Shah’s itinerary brings together some of the region’s prominent spiritual, historical and contemporary Durga Puja destinations.
The Amit Shah Kolkata visit is expected to conclude on Sunday after his scheduled engagements, followed by his departure for Delhi.
