Dr Baljit Kaur backs the Mann government’s anti-drug campaign and highlights the CBI investigation into the Parvinder Jhotte case.
Dr Baljit Kaur has backed the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government’s campaign against drugs, asserting that the government has a clear policy and a firm commitment to tackling the drug menace. She said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accepted the demand of Parvinder Jhotte’s family and handed over the investigation into the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
According to Dr Baljit Kaur, the Punjab government is working seriously to protect the state’s youth from drug addiction and dismantle drug trafficking networks. She highlighted the coordination between the police, civil administration and Village Defence Committee (VDC) members as an important part of the ongoing campaign.
Dr Baljit Kaur Highlights Mann Government’s Commitment Against Drugs
Dr Baljit Kaur said the government’s objective is to prevent young people from falling into the trap of addiction and eliminate the networks involved in the illegal drug trade. She maintained that the administration is working with different agencies to strengthen efforts against drug trafficking.
The minister’s remarks underline the state government’s stated commitment to addressing the drug problem through coordinated action. Dr Baljit Kaur also stressed the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies, administrative officials and local communities to make the campaign more effective.
Mundra Port Drug Trafficking Issue Also Needs Attention
While discussing the drug problem, Dr Baljit Kaur questioned the practice of singling out Punjab over the issue. She argued that alleged drug trafficking through Gujarat’s Mundra Port should also receive serious attention.
She said drug-related challenges are not limited to one state and that the issue should be addressed across the country. According to her, focusing criticism solely on Punjab does not provide a comprehensive solution to the wider problem of drug trafficking.
Dr Baljit Kaur emphasised that effective action against the illegal movement of narcotics requires accountability and coordinated efforts by the agencies responsible for preventing trafficking.

Police, Civil Administration and VDCs Working Together
Dr Baljit Kaur said the Punjab government is working alongside the police and civil administration to strengthen its anti-drug efforts. Village Defence Committee members are also contributing to the campaign through local-level cooperation.
She explained that the broader objective is to take action against drug supply networks while introducing effective measures to protect young people from addiction.
According to Dr Baljit Kaur, tackling the drug menace requires more than enforcement alone. Cooperation among government departments, law enforcement agencies and local communities is essential to address the problem at its roots.
Dr Baljit Kaur Calls for Nationwide Action Against Drug Trafficking
Dr Baljit Kaur reiterated that drug trafficking should be treated as a nationwide concern rather than an issue associated with a single state. She called for effective action against those involved in the illegal drug trade across the country.
She maintained that the Mann government is committed to protecting Punjab’s youth and continuing its efforts against drugs. The government’s approach, as outlined in her statement, combines enforcement measures with administrative coordination and community participation.
The transfer of the Parvinder Jhotte case to the CBI, following the family’s demand as stated by the minister, is another key point in the political discussion surrounding the state’s anti-drug campaign.
Dr Baljit Kaur concluded that sustained action, institutional accountability and cooperation across states are necessary to tackle drug trafficking and protect the younger generation from addiction.
