The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its anti-corruption campaign in the state, on Friday arrested revenue Patwari Jagjit Singh, Halka Kalyan Sukha, District Bathinda for accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000.
Giving this information here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said the above accused has been arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by Kuldeep Singh, a resident of village Kalyan Sukha, district Bathinda.
He informed that the complainant approached the vigilance and alleged that about 6 acres of arable land at village Kalyan Sukha belongs to the joint account and he wanted to transfer 2 kanals of land belonging to him to the other party. In this regard, Patwari Jagjit Singh and his private associate Beant Singh demanded a bribe of Rs 12,000 from him in lieu of doing this work, but after insisting, the deal was settled for Rs 10,000. The complainant further told that a few days ago, the same Patwari had already taken a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from him to get loan clearance certificate for this land.
The spokesman added that after the preliminary investigation of this complaint, the VB Unit Bathinda laid a trap and nabbed Patwari Jagjit Singh red-handed in the presence of two official witnesses while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. Efforts are being made to arrest the co-accused Beant Singh. In this regard a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the both the accused at Vigilance Bureau, police station, Bathinda Range and further investigation was under progress.
