In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Ghai congratulated Aamir for upholding the dignity of Hindi cinema and supporting the big-screen experience in India. He wrote, “Dear Aamir, you have done it again to bring dignity to Hindi cinema with your heartwarming film in cinema halls and pledging not to show it on the small screen for six months. I’m glad that all India exhibitors honoured you as a brave filmmaker yesterday for respecting the business of big screens theatres too. Congratulations and blessings.”
Aamir’s decision to forgo a lucrative streaming deal reportedly worth Rs 120 crore demonstrates his commitment to theatre culture, a move that has earned him respect from industry veterans and cinema exhibitors alike.
Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par tells the inspiring story of a basketball coach (played by Aamir Khan) who trains a team of 10 neurodivergent players. The film is a remake of the acclaimed Spanish film Champions.
In an interview with Zoom TV, Aamir revealed that despite advice to take on a more commercial action film, he chose to follow his heart with Sitaare Zameen Par. “Even today, action ka daur hai, and everyone wants action films to be made. When I started working on Sitaare Zameen Par, people advised that I should do an action film. Lekin jis cheez mein pe mera dil aa jaata hai, main phir wohi kar sakta hoon, mujhe aur kuch hota nahi hai,” he said.
The film’s exclusive theatrical release has sparked conversation among moviegoers, with many eager to support the cinema-first approach.
