Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan Box Office Struggles: Shanaya Kapoor’s Debut Fails to Impress

Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan Review: Decent Plot, Flawed Execution Leads to Poor Box Office Performance

Bollywood’s newest star kid, Shanaya Kapoor, daughter of Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor, made her much-anticipated debut with Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan. However, despite the excitement surrounding her first film, the romantic drama has faced a disappointing run at the box office since its release last Friday.

Starring opposite Vikrant Massey, the film was heavily promoted but failed to attract a strong audience turnout. On opening day, the film managed to collect only Rs 30 lakh, a figure far below expectations. While Saturday saw a modest rise in collections to Rs 49 lakh, Sunday did not bring much relief, with the total three-day earnings standing at just Rs 1.15 crore.

The downward trend continued on Monday, a working day, when Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan earned a mere Rs 20 lakh, bringing its four-day total to approximately Rs 1.35 crore. This is a major setback given the film’s budget of Rs 50 crore.

Facing tough competition at the box office, the film released alongside Rajkummar Rao’s Maalik and the Hollywood blockbuster Superman. While Superman dominated multiplex audiences, Maalik had a lukewarm performance, and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan struggled the most among the three releases.

The film, directed by Santosh Singh and produced by Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla, is inspired by Ruskin Bond’s short story The Eyes Have It. It revolves around the gentle, emotional love story of a visually impaired musician and a spirited theatre artist.
