AAP appoints Pravin Ram as Gujarat Farmers Cell President to strengthen farmer leadership, rights movement, and agricultural reforms in the state.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced the appointment of Pravin Ram as the new Gujarat Farmers Cell State President. The decision was made by Gujarat State In-charge Gopal Rai, State President Isudan Gadhvi, and State General Secretary Manoj Sorathiya after detailed discussions on strengthening the party’s grassroots farmer outreach in the state.
Along with his existing responsibility as the State President of AAP’s frontal organization, Pravin Ram will now also lead the Farmers Cell, handling dual organizational roles aimed at amplifying farmer-related issues across Gujarat.
Strengthening Farmer Leadership in Gujarat
According to the party, Pravin Ram’s appointment is expected to further strengthen the voice of farmers in Gujarat. The leadership believes that his long-standing involvement in public movements and grassroots activism will help intensify the fight for agricultural rights and rural development.
Pravin Ram, who comes from a modest farming background, has been actively engaged in social and political movements since 2012. Over the years, he has participated in campaigns related to workers, youth employment, healthcare workers, and farmers’ welfare.
Long History of Grassroots Activism
Pravin Ram began his activism in Gujarat, raising concerns related to employment conditions and public welfare schemes. He has been associated with movements demanding fair wages for contractual and outsourced workers, better support for ASHA workers, and reforms in government recruitment processes.
His work gradually expanded toward agricultural issues, where he became a prominent voice for farmers’ rights in Gujarat.
Major Farmer Movements and Protests
In 2016, Pravin Ram gained recognition after launching protests against eco-sensitive zone regulations in the Gir region, which were reportedly affecting farmers’ livelihoods. His campaign included rallies and long hunger strikes, which he claims helped bring attention to farmers’ concerns.
In 2019, he led a major protest in the Kesod region, demanding compensation for farmers affected by crop damage due to flooding.
After joining AAP in 2020, he continued to advocate for issues such as seeds, fertilizers, electricity supply, irrigation, loan waivers, and compensation for agricultural losses.
In 2024, he once again led protests against the proposed implementation of eco-sensitive zone regulations in Gir, which were later halted following sustained farmer agitation.

Recent Activism in 2025
In 2025, Pravin Ram undertook a long foot march across approximately 45 villages in the Ghed region to highlight the issue of waterlogging and demand permanent solutions for affected farmers.
He was also involved in a protest movement in Botad related to agricultural concerns, during which he spent over 100 days in judicial custody, according to party statements.
AAP leaders stated that Pravin Ram’s dual responsibilities will help consolidate farmer-related issues and strengthen the party’s organizational structure in Gujarat. The party believes his leadership will bring more focus to agricultural distress, rural infrastructure challenges, and farmer welfare policies.
With this appointment, AAP aims to expand its presence among Gujarat’s farming community and intensify its advocacy for agricultural reforms and farmers’ rights.
