AAP’s Dr. Karan Barot criticizes Gujarat’s Praveshotsav, highlighting rising dropout rates and questioning education quality in government schools.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised serious concerns over Gujarat’s school enrollment initiative and the increasing dropout ratio in secondary education, questioning the effectiveness of government education policies.

AAP state spokesperson Dr. Karan Barot criticized the government’s “Praveshotsav” school admission campaign, stating that it has largely become a symbolic one-day event focused on publicity rather than long-term educational outcomes.

He questioned whether children enrolled in Class 1 during the campaign actually continue their studies up to Class 10 with quality education. According to him, while photographs, videos, and social media reels are widely circulated during admissions, there is little monitoring of school infrastructure, teacher availability, attendance, and learning quality.

Barot further alleged that the quality of education in government schools has not improved despite increased spending on education budgets. He claimed that students in rural and tribal areas are particularly affected, with many leaving school after Class 9 and Class 10 to join the workforce due to economic pressures.

He cited dropout rates of around 16.9% at the secondary level and over 20% in tribal regions, calling it a serious concern that reflects gaps in policy implementation. He argued that despite several government schemes aimed at improving education outcomes, their impact on the ground remains limited.

The AAP leader also pointed out that while Gujarat promotes its “Vibrant Gujarat” development model, school enrollment trends show a decline in student numbers and a rising dropout rate, which he said contradicts claims of educational progress.

Barot urged the state government to conduct a thorough review of existing education schemes and ensure proper monitoring of school infrastructure, including classrooms, sanitation facilities, teacher availability, and learning outcomes.

He warned that continued neglect of the education system could have long-term consequences for Gujarat’s social and economic development, particularly in rural and marginalized communities.
