Ashwini Choubey
Among the three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs in Bihar who have been refused a Lok Sabha ticket, union minister Ashwini Choubey has expressed his disappointment at the way the party made the decision against him. Despite his close ties to the party, Choubey, 72, claims in an interview that he was not informed about the situation. Revised passages:
No, neither did I anticipate that nor did I receive any warning about it. For many years, I have been a member of the core committee that awards tickets to candidates. I have never had a problem getting a party ticket to run for office, and my party has never made me feel excluded. My affiliation with the party extends far beyond that, and although I have experienced ups and downs along the way, I have always come out stronger.
Are you disappointed?
Not as a result of the ticket being denied. I’ve received far more from the party than I could have imagined. From the time I was a student and associated with the RSS Bal Swayamsevak, it has been nearly sixty years of exciting travel. It has helped me learn a lot throughout numerous hardships and even death escapes. Having been able to learn from the likes of Govindacharyaji and Govalkarji, I accept hardship and believe that everything happens for a reason. However, there is a whiff of conspiracy, so it hurts the way it all happened.
Who could conspire to deny you the ticket?
Time will demonstrate that. I’m not required to talk. The truth is straightforward: no one ever told me that I wouldn’t get the seat for a particular reason. I’m attempting to determine what had to have caused it. I have also alerted the party’s senior authorities to the situation, and I will wait for their guidance. I’ve informed them that I’m entitled to an explanation for the ticket denial. It’s also incorrect that some claim that I proposed the new candidate’s name. I was never aware of the goings-on at the local level.
Will you file nomination as an independent, as is being speculated?
This is completely false, and the people spreading these rumors are ignorant of both me and my affiliation with the party. I will be with the BJP until the end of my days. The color saffron, which represents sacrifice, is all around me. Opposing the party is just not an option, and the conspiracy ideas that are circulating only make me feel more concerned. I’ll follow the party’s instructions. I’ve been told to do my task and put everything else aside. That’s exactly what I’m doing.
So, do you still see prospects?
I’ve always looked on the bright side, and every challenge has only made me stronger. My existence has been difficult. A ticket is a little item. I vividly remember JP (Jayapakash Narayan) calling against dynastic politics and corruption fifty years ago. The same is being said now by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A week ago, I was in Patna for programs commemorating 50 years of the JP movement. I vividly remember the times when I actively participated in student mobilization as a student. Govindacharyaji pushed me to become a Pracharak, but my parents wanted me to become a doctor. I have enough in my life, even though I have never asked for anything. It is all predetermined by God. I’ll accept whatever is thrown at me.
Will you go to Buxar for campaigning?
I’ll follow the instructions that my party gives me. Indeed, Buxar will not leave me, and I am unable to leave him. The spiritualism center is located in Buxar. It is the location where Ram’s might was revealed. It is the location where Saint Vishwamitra spent ten years in worship and served as an ashram mentor to Lord Ram and his siblings. I’m working on an initiative to install a massive statue of Ram in Buxar. I have a strong bond with Buxar. I support Buxar and will wait for my party’s directive. Let’s see what God has planned for me this particular time.
