Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana is wed to author-filmmaker Tahira Kashyap, his childhood sweetheart, and the couple has two children together. The couple, who have been together since school, broke up for six months following the actor’s MTV Roadies victory, according to a recent statement from Ayushmann.

Ayushmann Khurrana reminisced about winning the title in the 2004 MTV Roadies season two. There were difficulties associated with the sudden celebrity, especially when it comes to managing relationships. Khurrana acknowledged that he ended his relationship with Tahira because of the attention he got from other girls following his Roadies victory.

Khurrana recalled the turbulent time and that it was hard for him to deal with stardom in his late teens. Dealing with fame when you’re sixteen, seventeen, and in your teens can be really challenging. My ex-girlfriend and I broke up because I was attracting attention from other women, as I recall. He added in Mashable Mehfil, “I went through that phase where you’re just getting a taste of fame and popularity.”

After winning, Ayushmann Khurrana rose to prominence in Chandigarh, the city where he was born. His choice to end his relationship with Tahira was eventually influenced by the rise in popularity, which gave him greater opportunities and attention and made him want to experience life to the fullest.

“I broke up with Tahira, saying, ‘I want to live my life.’ But after six months, I went back to her and told her, ‘I can’t do this anymore, f*** boy nahi ban sakta main.'” The most popular guy in Chandigarh at the time remarked.

Here this boy is looking at his youngest youth best and he is romancing women and what is this onscreen kiss! We both were very young. He didn’t have the time and patience to take me along and I didn’t have the patience to understand. There was this disconnect that we were not there for each other to take each other along in that journey. Somewhere he knew that she doesn’t mean mad. I also knew he wasn’t cheating. I had given up many times but he did not. He didn’t use to give up but he also didn’t make up… We both have really evolved as artists, as companions and we have seen a journey including cancer being a part of it. “
