Two weeks before the constituency’s elections, on Monday, Congress’s nominee for the Lok Sabha in Indore, Akshay Kanti Bam, withdrew his nomination, dealing a serious blow to the party.
He will probably join the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is in power.
It was confirmed by Indore Collector Ashish Singh that Bam had withdrawn his candidacy.
Kailash Vijayvargiya, a senior BJP leader and state cabinet member, shared a photo of Akshay Kanti Bam and him seated in a car on his X account.
They had local BJP MLA Ramesh Mendola riding with them in the vehicle as well. Mendola is one of Vijayvargiya’s most reliable allies.

“Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Indore Akshay Kanti Bam is welcome to the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party national president JP Nadda, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and state president VD Sharma,” said Vijayvargiya.
As a newcomer to politics, Bam (45) was put forward by the Congress to challenge BJP MP Shankar Lalwani (62) in the saffron party’s stronghold of the Indore Lok Sabha constituency.
On May 13, there will be voting in Indore.
In the meantime, police have been stationed outside Bam’s Patrakar Colony home.
Leaders of the local Congress began assembling outside his home.
In his short political career, Bam has not yet run for office.
At a time when several party workers, including three former MLAs, have switched sides and joined the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha election, the Congress offered him the chance to run from Indore.
With 25.13 lakh voters, Indore is the state’s largest constituency in terms of voters.
