In an effort to improve public service delivery and make governance more citizen-friendly, the Punjab Government is set to expand its Sewa Kendra network by establishing 44 additional centers across the state.
Announcing this initiative, Punjab Minister for Good Governance and Information Technology, Mr. Aman Arora, stated that the plan includes the construction of 16 new Sewa Kendras and the re-opening of 28 previously closed ones. Additionally, counters will be increased at six existing Sewa Kendras to handle growing public demand more effectively.
While presiding over the 22nd meeting of the Punjab State e-Governance Society (PSeGS) Board of Governors at Punjab Bhawan, Mr. Arora shared that ₹4.10 crore has been allocated for building the 16 new Kendras, and ₹1.54 crore will be used for reactivating the 28 closed ones. He highlighted that Sewa Kendras serve as a one-stop solution for over 500 government services, offering citizens convenience, transparency, and faster delivery of essential services.
To enhance the user experience, Mr. Arora instructed officials to upgrade existing Sewa Kendras with better infrastructure such as improved waiting areas, comfortable seating, air conditioning, and other basic amenities. These improvements are aimed at reducing overcrowding, improving accessibility, and enhancing overall citizen satisfaction.
The Minister also directed a detailed review of all current Sewa Kendras, focusing on their location, footfall, and proximity to residential zones. The aim is to identify underserved areas and develop a roadmap for expanding the network to ensure equitable access to services.
During the meeting, progress was also reviewed on integrating services of the Revenue and Transport departments into Sewa Kendras. At present, 30 services from the Transport department and 7 from the Revenue department are already available. Mr. Arora asked officials to streamline these operations further for greater efficiency.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary for Good Governance & IT Mr. D.K.
