The movie “Amar Singh Chamkila,” starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, is scheduled to debut on Netflix on April 12. On Monday, April 8, Netflix arranged a special screening of the movie in collaboration with the MAMI Mumbai Festival. Stars including Mrunal Thakur, Daisy Shah, Bhuvam Bham, Avneet Kaur, Shweta Basu Prasad, and Ishwak Singh were present for the screening. Following the screening, the celebrities shared their thoughts on Imtiaz Ali’s film, complimenting both it and Diljit for his portrayal of Amar Singh Chamkila, dubbed the “Elvis of Punjab.”
“I’ll definitely recommend other people to watch the movie,” Shweta Basu Prasad declared. It resembled a film of a live concert. I just have a much deeper understanding of Amr Singh Chamkila. People should watch it, in my opinion, because of Diljit, Imtiaz Sir, and the soundtrack. It’s really expertly constructed.
“It has to be on everyone’s must-watch list,” stated Ishwak Singh. It’s an extremely unique movie. It’s deeply rooted, poignant, and inspirational. It also has the feistiness and wildness of Imtiaz Ali.
Director Onir remarked, “Very beautiful film. Both the beginning and the finish of the movie hit home for you. His life is incredibly relevant to our own, if you look at it. Watching the movie has personally moved me to tears. I’m just overjoyed that this is a celebration of a life that is valuable because it was lived like an artist should have, in spite of all the criticism.
Avantika Dassani, the daughter of actor Bhagyashree, stated, “The movie lived up to my expectations, thus I highly recommend seeing it. It’s a gorgeous movie with gorgeous music, directors, and performers.
A user on X said, “Chamkila is a fantastic movie.” Superb writing and direction by Imtiaz Ali Amazing tunes from @arrahman. Excellent work by @diljitdosanjh.
The film is based on the life of the late Punjabi artist Amar Singh Chamkila, whose songs mostly dealt with issues of drinking, sexual assault, domestic abuse, and objectification of women. On March 8, 1988, Chamkila and his spouse Amarjot Kaur met their demise.
