Ambala Cantt to get Driving Training & Research Institute and Automated Vehicle Testing Station; youth skill development and vehicle safety enhanced.
Ambala Cantt is set to witness a major boost in skill development and employment opportunities as the Haryana government plans to establish a Driving Training & Research Institute along with an Automated Vehicle Testing Station in Shahpur village. The project has already received approval from Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini, confirmed Transport Minister Shri Anil Vij.
The new Driving Training & Research Institute aims to train hundreds of young professionals in modern driving techniques, vehicle safety, and traffic management. Alongside this, the Automated Vehicle Testing Station will enable the fitness testing of approximately 300 vehicles per week, ensuring better road safety and compliance with vehicle standards.
According to Shri Anil Vij, the combined initiative of the Driving Training & Research Institute and the Automated Vehicle Testing Station is expected to cost around ₹11.65 crore. “This project will not only enhance skill development for youth but also generate employment opportunities for the local population,” he said.

School and college students, as well as aspiring drivers, will benefit from hands-on training at the Driving Training & Research Institute. The facility will also serve as a research hub for modern driving methods, vehicle safety protocols, and innovations in transportation management.
Local officials emphasized that the Automated Vehicle Testing Station will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology to efficiently check vehicle compliance and fitness. The initiative is part of Haryana’s broader plan to improve road safety standards while promoting technical education and skill development across the state.
With the establishment of the Driving Training & Research Institute and the Automated Vehicle Testing Station, Ambala Cantt is poised to become a model center for transportation training and vehicle safety, providing both educational and professional opportunities to the youth of Haryana.
The Haryana government plans to roll out similar projects in other districts based on the success of this initiative in Ambala Cantt, making it a benchmark for skill development and road safety infrastructure in the state.
