Shark Tank India Judge Anupam Mittal Questions MBAs: Product Experience Beats Classroom Learning
Shark Tank India judge and Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal has sparked debate about the relevance of MBA degrees in today’s corporate world. In a recent LinkedIn post, Mittal argued that most MBA programs are outdated and that young professionals would benefit more from hands-on product-building experience.

“Most MBAs are outdated. Better to learn how to build products. That’s the best training ground if you want to accelerate your career or run a company one day,” Mittal wrote. He revealed that his own journey began as a Product Manager, where practical experience taught him lessons that no case study could.
Anupam Mittal emphasized that working in product management helps develop critical skills like questioning the status quo, building customer empathy, managing stakeholders, pursuing long-term wins, and influencing without authority.
Describing the life of a product builder, he said it is “messy, political, creative, and analytical — all at once,” mirroring real-world challenges far better than classroom discussions.
