Arvind Kejriwal news: Following a viral video allegedly showing former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal enjoying a sumptuous dinner, BJP and Congress lawmakers harshly criticized Kejriwal on Wednesday, calling it a “unfortunate” display of wealth from the self-proclaimed “Aam Aadmi (common man)”.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, purports to show Kejriwal sitting at an eight-person dinner table with an array of extravagant dishes. In a scene characterized by exquisite décor, excellent silverware, and opulent surroundings, his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, is seated next to him with a number of other people.
Leaders of the BJP and Congress joined social media users in criticizing Kejriwal for his extravagant show of riches, with some making fun of the sharp contrast to his prior persona as a “common man.” The incident sparked a wave of criticism online, with many pointing to the luxury of his surroundings as out of touch with the ordinary people he claims to represent.
Senior BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said, “Kejriwal once portrayed himself as a ‘Aam Aadmi’ – but it was all for show.”
Hussain added, “He used to cough and wear a muffler in the past. His cough has since cleared up, but Delhi as a whole is still coughing.
Hussain further accused Kejriwal of ‘hypocrisy’, noting, “He once said he wouldn’t take an official house, yet he’s built himself a ‘Sheesh Mahal’. Hussain claimed that Kejriwal would not use government vehicles, yet he currently takes helicopters. If only the average person could eat like this; Kejriwal has revealed his true nature.
“Kejriwal never truly believed in “Aam Aadmi.” Hussain said that he and his spouse were well-off IRS officers who lived comfortably. “The life of luxury that lies behind the muffler and loose shirt is now revealed to us.”
Congressman Sandeep Dikshit, meanwhile, attacked Kejriwal as well, calling the video “unfortunate.”
“Normally, no one would comment on such personal matters,” Dikshit said. However, it is unfortunate the way Kejriwal sold his simple life. Dikshit questioned Kejriwal’s dedication to his ostensibly humble lifestyle, saying, “This video raises serious questions, but Kejriwal has always used simplicity as a weapon against others.” At one point, he attempted to damage the reputation of all leaders by portraying himself as modest and grounded. But now we see him living in luxury far beyond even the magnificent Chhappan Bhog.
“From day one in politics, his goal seems clear – to enjoy power and luxury,” the Congress leader said, drawing a conclusion that the widely shared video depicts Kejriwal’s grim reality. Kejriwal had no choice but to eat dal-roti back then. His appetite has grown now that he has access to wealth and power.
