Saurabh Bharadwaj: The Delhi government has made over 1,000 Chhath Puja Chhath ghats throughout the city, according to Chief Minister Atishi.
Saurabh Bharadwaj: On Tuesday, residents of the Chirag Dilli locality demonstrated against loud music being played at a Chhath Puja ghat, and Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj joined them. The demonstrators attempted to destroy the police barricades erected to keep the gathering under control at the ghat, according to a video released. The construction of ghats for devotees has already sparked a political dispute between the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
According to CM Atishi, the Delhi government has constructed more than a thousand Chhath Puja Chhath ghats throughout the city. Due to the holiday, which is mostly observed by people from eastern Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Bihar, both parties have accused one another of showing disrespect for the Purvanchali group.
AAP leaders claim that BJP representatives have interfered with preparations at the Satpula ghat in south Delhi, which is the traditional location for Chhath Puja. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA), which is controlled by the BJP, was previously accused by Bhardwaj of blocking access to ghats, saying that it had “blocked a path used by Dalit villagers for Chhath Puja.”
“The Delhi Police converted Chhath Puja into a cantonment on the BJP’s directives, erecting barricades around to prevent people from celebrating the holiday. They are powerless to prevent Chhath Puja. For the past eight years, the Delhi government has held the puja here, and only at the BJP’s insistence have these individuals converted it into a cantonment. This morning, BJP members attempted to take over the Chhath Ghat at ITO, but were repelled by the Chhath Puja committee. The BJP is engaging in the same shady politics here as well,” he had previously stated.
