Sahariya Dance-
In this dance, the heroine feels sad during the Holi days due to separation from her beloved who has gone abroad, and sings, “My golden nose ring got lost while playing Holi, my golden nose ring is made of brass without my beloved.” The dancers dressed as wild animals dance with her, joke and tease her by calling her husband’s name. In the tradition of Sahariya tribe, this dance continues for the whole night, in which the sorrow of separation from the beloved and the happiness of union in the end is depicted.Team leader Gopal Dhanuk says that this dance is of three types, in which the dance of worship of the goddess is performed for nine days during Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratri, while on the festival of Holi, this dance is performed in the villages of Sahariya people throughout the month of Falgun. The Holi dance was shown in the Shilpgram Festival.
Gopal says that the credit for bringing this dance to the public and training the tribal dancers goes to Furqan Khan, Director of West Zone Cultural CentreWhen he was in Western Region Cultural Centre in 2011-12, he brought us here from the village and today this folk dance has made its mark in entire India.
