The political climate in Punjab has intensified as senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Baltej Pannu launched a blistering attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding the new language policy in Army Schools. The controversy erupted following reports that Punjabi has been relegated to an optional subject, while Sanskrit has been made mandatory in Army Schools located within Punjab.

Expressing deep resentment, Baltej Pannu termed this decision a direct assault on the identity and heritage of Punjab. He stated that the move to prioritize Sanskrit over the mother tongue of the land is a calculated attempt to diminish the importance of the Punjabi language. According to Baltej Pannu, this policy shift is not just an educational change but a political statement against the cultural fabric of the state.

“BJP Has a History of Anti-Punjab Decisions”
Continuing his critique, Pannu highlighted that the BJP’s decisions have consistently been at odds with the interests of Punjab. He condemned the central government’s “dictatorial” approach to education, asserting that the AAP would not stand by while the state’s linguistic rights are trampled upon.
“The BJP’s agenda has always been anti-Punjab. By making Punjabi optional in Army Schools, they are trying to alienate the youth from their roots,” Baltej remarked during his press address.
Punjab Will Not Tolerate Disrespect to ‘Maa Boli’
Emphasizing the emotional connection Punjabis have with their language, Baltej issued a stern warning. He clarified that any decision taken against the ‘Maa Boli’ (mother tongue) would face fierce resistance from the people. He called upon the authorities to immediately revoke the order and restore Punjabi as a compulsory subject in all educational institutions within the state borders.
