Bollywood actor Sunny Deol is all set to return to the big screen with his upcoming historical drama, which has now been officially retitled as ‘Batwara 1947’. The film, earlier known as ‘Lahore 1947’, is being produced by Aamir Khan Productions and marks another major collaboration in Hindi cinema.
The announcement was made by Sunny Deol through his official Instagram handle, where he shared a motion poster revealing the new title along with the confirmed release date. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on 14 August 2026, strategically timed ahead of India’s Independence Day celebrations.

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film features a strong ensemble cast including Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, and Karan Deol alongside Sunny Deol.

Reason Behind Title Change
As per industry reports, the film’s title was changed from ‘Lahore 1947’ to ‘Batwara 1947’ due to concerns over the original naming. It is reported that producer Aamir Khan preferred a different title approach. The makers eventually acquired the rights for Batwara, which originally belonged to the late producer Salim Akhtar’s family, finalizing the new identity of the film.

Story Based on Partition of India
