Mandala Murders: Vaani Kapoor and Surveen Chawla Break Stereotypes of On-Set Competition
When two actresses embody strong, commanding characters in the same series, the potential for on-screen rivalry or behind-the-scenes competition often looms large. However, in the upcoming crime thriller Mandala Murders, Vaani Kapoor and Surveen Chawla have put those stereotypes to rest, emphasizing the mutual respect that shaped their collaboration.

Vaani Kapoor plays a determined detective, while Surveen Chawla takes on the role of a sharp and influential local politician. Directed by Gopi Puthran and Manan Rawat, the series explores complex power dynamics and layered storytelling, anchored by the strong performances of its lead actresses.
Reflecting on their experience working together, Vaani shared that there was no competition or insecurity on set despite their equally powerful roles.
“I think it’s unspoken respect for one another and the craft,” she said. “Instead of thinking about grabbing all the limelight for a scene, you can enhance it by just being silent and being present for your co-actor when they are doing their lines (and give cues). It’s not something one needs to ask of the other person. It’s just unspoken mutual respect.”
