Is BigBasket About to Steal Zomato and Swiggy’s Thunder with 10-Minute Delivery?
According to co-founder Vipul Parekh, BigBasket’s 10-Minute Delivery Launch will target both existing users of popular food delivery platforms and new consumers seeking rapid access to food items. To power this, BigBasket plans to significantly expand its network of dark stores—hyperlocal fulfillment centers designed for speedy order processing—from 700 currently to up to 1,200 by the end of 2025.
The company has already begun a pilot in Bengaluru and plans to operate from 40 dark stores by July, with early results showing increasing customer demand for combining fast-food items with grocery orders.
What sets BigBasket apart in this space is that its menu will feature exclusively Tata Group-affiliated brands such as Starbucks and Qmin, avoiding partnerships with external restaurants for the time being.
Valued at around $7.1 billion, India’s quick commerce sector is rapidly growing, and BigBasket’s 10-Minute Delivery Launch positions the company as a serious contender in the ultra-competitive market.
Leveraging internal capital from the Tata Group, BigBasket is not seeking external funding currently and is preparing for an IPO within the next 18 to 24 months. This strategic move signals BigBasket’s confidence in its fast-delivery offering to capture significant market share.
