BJP New National Team announced under Nitin Nabin, with Smriti Irani as general secretary and Piyush Goyal as treasurer. Check who is in and who is out.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a major organisational reshuffle under national president Nitin Nabin, bringing a mix of experienced leaders, younger faces and representatives from different regions into its central team. The BJP New National Team includes several prominent names, with former Union minister Smriti Irani making a notable return as national general secretary.
The reshuffle, announced on August 17, also gives important responsibilities to leaders such as Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Ram Madhav and Piyush Goyal. The new structure is being seen as an attempt to combine organisational experience with fresh leadership and broader social and regional representation.
Smriti Irani gets key organisational responsibility
One of the biggest highlights of the BJP New National Team is Smriti Irani’s appointment as a national general secretary. The former Union minister is returning to a significant organisational position after her stint in the Union Cabinet.
Her appointment comes at a politically important time, with the BJP preparing for upcoming electoral challenges. Irani is among eight national general secretaries in the newly announced structure.
Vasundhara Raje retained as vice-president
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia has retained her position as national vice-president. D Purandeshwari and former National Commission for Women chief Rekha Verma have also been given vice-presidential responsibilities.
Baijayant Panda and Tariq Mansoor are among the other leaders retained at the vice-president level. Ram Madhav has also returned to the BJP’s national organisational setup as a vice-president.
Piyush Goyal returns as national treasurer
Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer, returning to a post he previously held. He replaces Rajesh Agarwal.
Several other organisational changes have also been announced. Harish Dwivedi has been elevated to national general secretary, while Lal Singh Arya has moved from heading the BJP’s SC Morcha to the post of national vice-president.
Saudan Singh has been appointed national joint general secretary (organisation), while Tarun Chugh has been given the responsibility of national office in-charge.

Women and minority representation
The BJP New National Team also places emphasis on representation across different social groups. Reports on the new structure indicate strong participation of women, while six leaders from minority communities have also been included.
Kavita Patidar and Sangeeta Yadav have been appointed national secretaries. Roop Kumari Choudhary has been given charge of the BJP Mahila Morcha, while Priti Gandhi has been assigned the role of social media co-convenor.
Who is out from the BJP’s national team?
The reshuffle has also resulted in several prominent leaders losing their earlier organisational positions. Among those dropped from key posts are Arun Singh, Dushyant Gautam and Radha Mohan Das Agarwal, who were serving as national general secretaries.
At the vice-president level, Saroj Pandey, D K Aruna, M Chuba Ao, Abdulla Kutty, Laxmikant Vajpayee and Lata Usendi are among those who have been removed.
Several national secretaries have also been dropped, including Pankaja Munde, Alka Gurjar, Om Prakash Dhurve, Narendra Singh, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Surendra Nagar, Om Prakash Dhanak and Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
Rajesh Agarwal has been replaced as treasurer, while Naresh Bansal is no longer joint treasurer. Amit Malviya has also been removed from the BJP’s IT cell leadership, marking another significant change in the party’s communication setup.
A mix of experience and fresh faces
The BJP New National Team reflects the party’s effort to balance senior leaders with younger and newer organisational faces. The reshuffle includes promotions, returns to important positions and changes in responsibilities across different wings.
With 13 national vice-presidents and eight national general secretaries in the newly announced structure, the BJP has significantly reorganised its central leadership framework.
The changes are also being viewed in the context of the BJP’s preparations for upcoming elections and its efforts to strengthen its organisation across states. The BJP New National Team will now be responsible for carrying forward the party’s organisational and political priorities under Nitin Nabin’s leadership.
