Anurag Kashyap Slams Bollywood: ‘Cheap Imitators Will Copy Lokah’

Lokah, produced by Dulquer Salmaan and directed by Dominic Arun, has become a phenomenon in the Malayalam film industry, grossing over ₹250 crore globally. Starring Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen, the superhero film is intended to launch a franchise—something that has proven challenging for many major Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu films in recent years.
In a recent interview, Kashyap, who has relocated from Mumbai to Bengaluru, highlighted Bollywood’s disconnect from global trends, particularly Japanese anime. “Whenever you open BookMyShow, Demon Slayer is playing. Bollywood producers have no idea about it; they’re happy seeing posters of their own films,” he remarked, criticizing Hindi filmmakers for failing to recognize the massive popularity of anime in India.
