A Working Man Delivers Solid Box Office Results, Surpassing $30 Million
Jason Statham’s latest action thriller, A Working Man, has successfully claimed the top spot at the box office during its debut weekend. Directed by David Ayer, the film earned a solid $15.2 million domestically, with an additional $15 million from international markets, bringing its worldwide total to $30 million. This impressive opening comes despite a slower start, as the film only grossed $1.1 million in Thursday previews, less than half of what Statham and Ayer’s previous collaboration, The Beekeeper, earned during its preview period. However, A Working Man managed to recover over the weekend, and its opening is only narrowly behind The Beekeeper’s $16.5 million debut.
With this performance, Statham’s career box office total has now surpassed a staggering $8.5 billion, reinforcing his status as one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars in the action genre. A Working Man’s mix of high-octane thrills and Ayer’s direction seems to have struck a chord with moviegoers, even as it navigated some early skepticism in its previews. The success of A Working Man at the box office shows that Jason Statham’s high-energy action roles still have the power to draw in audiences all over the world.
Snow White Struggles at the Box Office
Disney’s live-action Snow White got off to a decent start, earning $42 million in its opening weekend. But things took a downturn quickly, with the film dropping 66% in its second weekend, making just $14.2 million. That steep decline has many wondering if it can keep up any momentum.
So far, Snow White has pulled in $66 million domestically and $76 million internationally, totaling $143 million globally. While that’s not insignificant, it still doesn’t come close to covering its hefty $209 million production budget. The film, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, has sparked some debate, with people divided over the casting and the fresh take on the classic story. These mixed reactions seem to be affecting its box office performance.
The big question now is whether Snow White will pick up steam and eventually make back its money, or if it’ll go down as a miss for Disney, especially as other films, like A Working Man, continue to perform well.
The Chosen Surges at the Box Office with Strong Debut
While Snow White faltered, The Chosen‘s debut of its first two episodes from Season 5, titled The Last Supper Part 1, made a strong showing at the box office. The limited theatrical release of the religious drama grossed $11.4 million, securing third place at the weekend box office. What’s especially impressive is that The Chosen played in only 2,235 theaters, far fewer than many major releases, but still managed to outperform other films in terms of per-theater gross. With more than $5,100 earned per theater, it beat out every film in the top five on a per-location basis.
Faltering Performances from Other Films
Outside the top five, some films are facing significant drops in box office performance. Novocaine, an action thriller starring Jack Quaid, experienced a steep 61% drop in its third weekend, grossing just $1.4 million. Similarly, Mickey 17, the sci-fi film directed by Alex Garland, also dropped nearly 50% in its fourth weekend, earning $1.4 million and pushing its global total to $121 million, which is above its reported budget. On the other hand, The Alto Knights, starring Robert De Niro, had a disastrous second weekend, falling 65% and grossing just $1.1 million, leaving its global total under $9 million.
