Punjab’s Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, Forests, and Wildlife Preservation, Mr. Lal Chand Kataruchak, called upon the youth to adopt the principles of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to build an equitable and progressive society. He emphasized that following Baba Saheb’s path is the truest tribute to his legacy.
Speaking at a district-level event organized at SSM College, Dinanagar, to mark the 134th birth anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar, the minister highlighted his invaluable role as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. He praised Dr. Ambedkar’s lifelong commitment to equality, fraternity, and the upliftment of marginalized communities, noting that his vision of social and political justice remains as relevant today as ever.
Mr. Kataruchak described Dr. Ambedkar as a global icon whose life should inspire today’s youth to build a more inclusive and fair society. He also spoke about the Punjab Government’s dedication to following in Dr. Ambedkar’s footsteps, especially through initiatives aimed at uplifting Scheduled Castes.
He noted that, for the first time in Punjab’s history, six cabinet ministers belong to the Scheduled Castes. He further mentioned that the state government has ensured the timely release of funds under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, providing significant support to students. Additionally, loans issued by the SC Corporation before March 31, 2020, have been waived, benefiting those unable to repay due to financial hardships. For the first time, seats for SC/ST candidates have been reserved in the A.G. office.
The minister affirmed the state government’s focus on youth employment, sharing that over 50,000 government jobs have been provided based on merit. He also reiterated Punjab’s commitment to preserving the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh, ensuring their portraits are displayed in all government offices.
Strongly condemning the vandalism of Baba Saheb’s statues by anti-national elements, Mr. Kataruchak warned that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
A booklet showcasing the Punjab Government’s welfare initiatives for Scheduled Castes, Tribes, and minority communities was also released at the event. The district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh, honored the minister and other dignitaries with mementos.
