According to officials on Thursday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has established a special email address, sandeshkhali@cbi.gov.in, to assist victims of land encroachment in Sandeshkhali, a village in West Bengal, in filing complaints. In accordance with the directives issued by the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday, the agency has developed the email address.

“The District Magistrate, North 24 Parganas has also been requested to give adequate publicity of the said e-mail ID in the locality and also issue a public notice in the vernacular dailies having a wide circulation in the areas as per the Hon’ble High Court’s order,” a spokesperson for the Central Bureau of Investigation. According to sources cited by report, the CBI will register cases in response to complaints.

Calcutta High Court Issues Various Directions To CBI

The Calcutta High Court on Monday ordered the CBI to conduct a court-monitored investigation into claims of land encroachment and crimes against women in Sandeshkhali, emphasizing the need for a “impartial inquiry” in the interest of justice.

In addition, the court has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation to conduct a thorough analysis of revenue records and on-site inspections in order to compile a detailed report on the alleged illegal conversion of agricultural land into water bodies for pisciculture.

Additionally, the central agency has been asked by the court to provide a thorough report before the next hearing, which is set for May 2. Moreover, the state government has been directed to provide the central probe agency with the required support.

Three cases involving attacks on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Sandeshkhali, purportedly carried out by a mob at the command of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh, are being looked into by the agency.
