According to Downdetector, a real-time service outage tracking website, reports of the issue began shortly after 11:00 AM IST, peaking within 20 minutes. The majority of users (around 85%) reported problems specifically with ChatGPT, while 13% flagged issues related to the OpenAI website, and a small number (2%) cited trouble with the Writing Coach tool.
India Among Most Affected
In India alone, over 500 users reported problems accessing the service. However, by 3:30 PM, the situation appeared to improve, with Downdetector showing a drop in user complaints to just 42.
Despite the scale of the outage, OpenAI, the parent company behind ChatGPT, has not yet issued an official statement or provided clarification on the cause of the disruption.
