As per the directions of the Chhattisgarh Government, the ‘Mor Gaon, Mor Pani’ campaign is being run in Kanker district with full enthusiasm. District Collector Nilesh Kumar Mahadev Kshirsagar said that the purpose of this campaign would be to conserve rainwater and make it a people’s movement. In this sequence, four-day orientation and training programmes are being organised in all the 454 Gramme Panchayats of the district till June 5.
Sarpanches of Gramme Panchayats, Secretaries, Employment Assistants, women of Bihan group and officers of various departments related to water conservation are participating in this training. They are being informed about the advanced techniques of water harvesting.
Transparent planning on technical basis
Chief Executive Officer of Zila Panchayat, Mr. Haresh Mandavi informed that modern technologies, especially GIS (Geographical Information System) are being effectively used for the success of this mega campaign. This is ensuring accurate planning and transparency of water conservation works. He informed that robust and technically sound water conservation plans are being prepared for the next three years with public participation. Under this, each block has been divided into four clusters through cluster organisations formed by the State Rural Livelihood Mission, making the training more effective and systematic.
Major water conservation works to be included in the scheme
Under this campaign, works like check dam construction, farm pond contour trenching, roof water harvesting, tree plantation, livelihood tree, soak pit, deepening of water storage ponds and drain treatment will be undertaken. The Collector made it clear that the quality of all works should be of the highest standard.
Villages Aware of Public Awareness and Participation
Under the campaign, a record of the past and present groundwater level is being prepared in all the gramme panchayats, which will give information to the villagers about the changes in the water level. The message of water conservation is being given through wall writings in villages. At the same time, concerted efforts are being made towards proper management of water resources through trainings, which will not only increase the availability of water but also strengthen the livelihood and environmental balance of the villagers. Efforts are being strengthened to save water by cleaning water sources through rallies, oath-taking and shramdaan in villages.
