Chhattisgarh NEWS : On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, various programs were organised on Wednesday to increase public awareness towards blood donation through weekly Arogya Melas organised in all Ayushman Arogya Mandirs of Chhattisgarh. More than 46 thousand citizens underwent health check-up in 3807 Arogya Melas across the state, in which more than 10 thousand citizens took the pledge of blood donation and reiterated the pledge that they would contribute to save lives by donating blood to any needy person in time, if needed.
This year’s theme is “Give blood, give hope.” Under the ‘Together We Save Lives “initiative, blood donation registration, pledge ceremony, awareness rallies and blood donor felicitation were held at all Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. Programmes were also organised enthusiastically under the guidance of Sarpanches in Gramme Panchayats, so that public participation reached village to village. Poster exhibition, blood donation motivation rally and felicitation of ideal blood donors were organised in both urban and rural areas of the state. People enthusiastically participated in it and made it a festival of humanitarian service.
This is a proof of social consciousness and service, the department said. We aim to establish blood donation as a life-giving initiative at every district, block and panchayat level. “This campaign run by the health department in the state has not been limited to awareness only, but the active participation of the citizens has given it the form of a social movement. This process of participatory construction will strengthen the state towards a self-reliant blood donation system in the coming times. Blood donation not only saves lives but also strengthens the spirit of compassion, cooperation and service in society.

Any healthy person can donate blood once every 3 to 4 months and it is safe for the body. Any healthy citizen between the age of 18 and 65 years can donate blood.
