Chhattisgarh NEWS : The inspection team of Kondagaon Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) has seized two vehicles engaged in illegal transportation of maize in violation of the Mandi Act. Under the leadership of Mandi Secretary Suresh Kumar Singh, this action was taken in Makdi area on 13th and 14th June.
According to the information received, on 13th June, Shri Nepal Gharami, a resident of village Bharsondi (Odisha) was caught while transporting 500 sacks of maize in Makadi Tehsil. Similarly, on 14th June, Shri Upendra Manjhi, a resident of village Ampani (Odisha) was caught with 387 sacks of maize. In both cases, documents were missing. In both the cases, maize and the vehicle were seized and handed over to the custody of Police Station Makdi under Section 23 of Mandi Act, 1972. Also, a total amount of Rs. 92,805 was recovered from the concerned traders under Section 19 (4) of the Act, five times the charges payable, Farmers Welfare Fee, Destitute Fee and Section 53. This action has been taken by the Mandi Committee in the interest of farmers and to ensure transparent agricultural trade.
It may be mentioned that in the year 2024-25, a total of 16 cases of illegal trade of maize were registered, in which Rs. 3.20 lakh was recovered. The Mandi Committee has said that illegal trade of agricultural produce is being strictly monitored and strict penal action will continue for violation of rules.
