Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav attended the ongoing Malwa Utsav on Sunday at the historic Lalbagh campus in Indore. Upon arrival, he interacted with folk artists from various states and encouraged them for their contributions. The festival features performances by artists from Madhya Pradesh and artists across the country. Artisans, weavers, and handicraft creators are exhibiting traditional artworks, including textiles, pottery, and metal crafts.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that Malwa Utsav is a vibrant celebration of our cultural heritage and folk traditions. It provides a platform for artists and reconnects people with their cultural roots. He emphasised the state government’s commitment to preserving traditional art, culture, and craftsmanship. Highlighting the cultural richness of Malwa and its festive traditions, he noted that such events also provide economic support to local artisans.
Member of Parliament and founder of the Lok Sanskriti Manch, Shri Shankar Lalwani, shared the objectives of the festival in his welcome address. He mentioned that Malwa Utsav has been held continuously for the past 25 years to promote and preserve art and culture. He also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Yadav for approving funds for the development of the historic Rajwada and Lalbagh sites.
Water Resources Minister Shri Tulsiram Silawat, Mayor Shri Pushyamitra Bhargava, MLAs Shri Ramesh Mendola, Shri Golu Shukla, and Shri Sumit Mishra, along with other public representatives, were present at the event.
CM Prepares and Tastes Traditional Bhajiyas at the Festival
The Lalbagh premises hosted performances of traditional folk dances & music, along with exhibitions of wall art, handicrafts, and culinary stalls. Dr. Yadav visited various stalls and even tried his hand at frying bhajiyas (fritters), sampling their taste afterwards. Handicraft Items such as Reza work, batik prints, copper and brass idols, and tribal paintings captivated the visitors. The cultural stage featured a variety of folk dance performances that were met with enthusiastic participation from the audience.
