Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami performed Govardhan Puja, worshipping Gau Mata and praying for Uttarakhand’s prosperity, welfare, and cow protection initiatives.
On the auspicious occasion of Govardhan Puja, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted a special worship ceremony of Cow Mother (Gau Mata) at the CM residence’s Gaushala. The ceremony was held to seek blessings for the prosperity, happiness, and welfare of the people of Uttarakhand.
The Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized the significance of Govardhan Puja as a celebration of nature conservation and the harmonious bond between humans and animals. “This festival not only symbolizes love and respect for animals but also encourages us to stay sensitive towards our traditions, culture, and environment,” said CM Dhami.

Highlighting the revered position of the cow in Hinduism, CM Dhami stated, “The cow is considered a mother in our ancient culture and is an integral part of Sanatan tradition and agricultural life. Serving and protecting cows not only supports our livelihood but also strengthens our cultural roots. Many families depend on cow-rearing and cow service for their sustenance.”
The Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami appealed to citizens to collectively engage in cow protection, care, and welfare initiatives. He further announced the government’s ongoing commitment to support stray cattle by constructing and operating Gaushalas across the state. Earlier, the state government provided Rs. 5 per day per stray animal for their care, which has now been increased to Rs. 80 per day, reflecting the state’s dedication to improving animal welfare.
Additionally, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami revealed that the government offers a 60% subsidy for private Gaushala construction, encouraging more participation in cow protection efforts. Currently, nearly 54 Gaushalas are under construction across Uttarakhand.
Concluding his remarks, the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami assured that the government will continue to work tirelessly to promote cow conservation and uphold the cultural and ecological balance in the region.
